Microsoft, one of the world’s most trusted technology companies, have globally benchmarked ESB’s Real Time Visualisation (RTV) Application in a new case study.

The case focuses on the story behind How Microsoft is empowering ESB to achieve its Net Zero 2040 ambition.

The team in ESB Generation and Trading manage, monitor and trade energy across the island. With an ambitious target of Net Zero by 2040, ESB sought to streamline its processes and make data-informed decisions faster.

Microsoft’s global case study documents the impact of the RTV app over the past 12 months as it is enabling ESB to process essential trading information, plan days in advance how they deploy their power stations, and make informed faster decisions.

Working with WONDR, ESB leveraged Microsoft Power BI and Azure to develop a centralised hub, a user-friendly, simple visualisation of all the energy assets across the island of Ireland such as market price, market dynamics, and what renewables are in the system.

“Projects like this are hugely interesting and exciting because you are supporting an organisation’s ambition to really make a difference.”

Dermot O'Shea Managing Director - WONDR

The RTV app drives focus in the right area to help ESB understand where they are generating the most carbon within ESB’s portfolio and where their focus should be in future planning, forecasting, and preparing KPIs and strategies to achieve Net Zero 2040.

Along with being Globally Benchmarked by Microsoft, ESB RTV app is also a global award winner at the UX Design Awards, one of the most prestigious international awarding bodies, who honour the impact accomplished UX design has on shaping a positive living environment for all.

Given the positive impact that the technology is already having within ESB, there are now plans to extend it to broader areas of the business in order to ensure access to business-critical information in real-time and better enable the company to make positive strategic decisions with regards to energy.

What are the 2021 Vega Digital Awards?

The Vega Digital Awards leverages its host, the International Awards Associate (IAA), to capture the attention of the creative digital media industry worldwide.

Known for honouring excellence in digital media, outstanding performance, talent and effort of the best digital professionals and web agencies worldwide. This year’s winners have been decided, through blind judging, by an international panel of 26 experts, all of whom hail from 13 countries.

In changing times like today, client retention is more crucial than ever.

ESB Energy saw an opportunity with the company’s rebrand to consolidate three websites, improve the digital experience and increasing conversion rates for EV, B2C and B2B customers.

This was the challenge for Irish electricity giant ESB in the UK market, which provides power to more than 100,000 homes each day in the UK. With 100% renewable electricity, the company offers competitive prices and over 90 years of industry experience. The goal was to launch ESB Energy as a digital-first experience and grow the brand through easy to complete sign up flows.

WONDR focused on planning a design system that could work across all digital touch points. We designed the experience across the product site, acquisition funnels and customer portal across mobile, tablet and desktop.

With clarity and a collaborative team approach, we delivered a quote journey with a 95% form completion rate and a customer portal which over 86% of customers used.

Foreword by Oisín Hurst – Director of Brand Strategy.

I never stop to ‘smell the roses’ (as some people say). I’m not entirely sure as to why. Usually, by the time a product or project has been completed, my mind needs to quickly pivot towards the next challenge. In truth ‘needs to’ isn’t quite accurate. It’s more of a habit than a need. But after seven years, maybe it’s time, as a team, to pick out a few favourites. So here they are.

There’s a whole host or reasons, working on an international showcase experience, pushing the project knowing that it’ll be seen by industry peers around the globe, the concept itself was so much fun.

But actually the biggest reason is the level of collaboration. We, as a team, sweated every detail, movement, effect and interaction.
